Birmingham Workers Memorial Day 2018 - Remember the Dead and Fight for the Living

Many braved the rain to hear of loved ones who had been lost, and others around the world killed and injured by work, and what needs be done to bring the terrible toll down in future.

Amongst those remembered by speakers:

  • Nicole’s Grandad Dave who died from mesothelioma
  • Mary’s friend Simon, killed by casualisation in the docks
  • Kathy’s Dad Jim who died from cadmium poisoning in electronics
  • and many more

Howard Beckett, West Midlands Acting Regional Secretary Unite the Union, named a number of Unite members killed by their work in the West Midlands.

All spoke of the need to organise to prevent such terrible tragedies in future.
